Pirates are shut out by Diamondbacks, capping four-game sweep

The Pirates’ four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks this weekend had a little bit of everything. A couple of rain delays, a sterling start by Ivan Nova, a baffling two-inning outing for Chad Kuhl, a 13-inning loss.

It just didn’t have a lot of offense — at least not for the Pirates.

That continued Sunday, when Clay Buchholz and the Diamondbacks bullpen mystified Pirates bats in a 3-0 shutout at PNC Park. The loss capped a four-game sweep by the Diamondbacks, and the Pirates dropped to five games below .500. They went 3-6 on a 10-day home stand and have lost six of their past seven, including five in a row.
