Pirates and Altoona Curve extend player development contract

BRADENTON, Fla. — The Pirates and Altoona Curve on Saturday announced a four-year extension of their player development contract through the 2022 season.

The Class AA club was already the Pirates’ longest-running minor league affiliate at 20 seasons. Only 23 full-season minor league teams (out of 120) have a longer continuous relationship with their major league affiliate, according to a press release.

The Curve won the second Eastern League championship in franchise history last fall. The players and coaches receive their championship rings during a pre-game ceremony at LECOM Park Saturday.

“We are extremely excited to extend our long-term partnership with the Altoona Curve for at least another four seasons,” Pirates president Frank Coonelly said in a press release.
