The Pirates added Michael Morse to the active roster today and optioned outfielder Jaff Decker to Class AAA Indianapolis.
Morse has played mostly first base this season, but played left field for the San Francisco Giants last year in addition to some time at first. He will serve as a right-handed complement to Pedro Alvarez at first base.
The Pirates’ bench now consists of two players – Morse and Travis Ishikawa – who can play first base and corner outfield. Pedro Florimon, Sean Rodriguez and Chris Stewart comprise the rest. Florimon can play the middle infield, and Rodriguez can play everywhere else.
