The Pittsburgh Pirates have added right-handed pitcher George Kontos to the active roster for tonight's game against the Detroit Tigers and optioned right-hander Dovydas Neverauskas to Indianapolis to make room.
Kontos was picked up off of waivers from the San Francisco Giants on Saturday. With the Giants, he had a 3.83 ERA and a 4.02 FIP in 51.2 innings over 50 appearances this season, with 17 walks and 55 strikeouts. He also had a 1.61 GO/AO ratio, which is well above his career average, both during his time in the minors and in the majors. The 9.6 SO/9IP ratio is the highest of his career.
