The Pirates on Monday activated right-handed pitcher Richard Rodriguez (shoulder inflammation) from the 10-day disabled list and promoted utility player Jose Osuna from Class AAA Indianapolis. To make room for Rodriguez and Osuna, they optioned righty Dovydas Neverauskas and catcher Jacob Stallings to Indianapolis.
Neverauskas made a strong return to the big-league club earlier this month, throwing two scoreless innings against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on June 8. He struggled in subsequent games, however, and in total, he posted a 10.38 ERA in four appearances during his last call-up.
“When he hasn’t executed pitches, he’s paid a price up here with damage done off the bat,” manager Clint Hurdle said.
