CINCINNATI — The Pirates activated first baseman Travis Ishikawa from the 15-day disabled list before today’s series opener against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park.
Ishikawa was placed on the disabled list Aug. 23 with a lower back strain. Manager Clint Hurdle said at the time Ishikawa’s back had been ailing him since he was claimed off waivers from the San Francisco Giants in July.
Ishikawa went 2 for 7 in two rehab starts last weekend for Class AAA Indianapolis. He has a .222 average in 54 at-bats this season for the Pirates.
