CHICAGO — The Pirates acquired minor league left-hander Zach Phillips from the Baltimore Orioles today in exchange for lefty Kyle Lobstein.
Phillips will not go on the Pirates' 40-man roster and will report to Class AAA Indianapolis.
Phillips, 29, had a 4.45 ERA in 49 relief appearances for Class AAA Norfolk this season. He made his major league debut in 2011, and pitched in the majors for the Orioles in 2012 and the Miami Marlins in ’13.
The Texas Rangers selected Phillips in the 23rd round in 2004.
The Pirates designated Lonstein for assignment Tuesday.
