'Perfect bat' used by Honus Wagner returns to Carnegie

When Andy Castellanos’ son was cleaning out the family garage 13 years ago, he found a half-forgotten family heirloom, a baseball bat that had been given to Mr. Castellanos’ father by Roy Campanella, a Hall of Fame catcher who played for the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1940s and ’50s.

“That sparked everything,” Mr. Castellanos said, who then went on to assemble a collection of vintage baseball bats owned by some of the greatest stars of the game, including Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth and “Shoeless” Joe Jackson.

Mr. Castellanos, 56, of Parkland, Fla., will bring one of the most prized bats in his collection — a bat made in 1905 for Honus Wagner — to the Historical Society of Carnegie on West Main Street in Carnegie from 10 a.
