The Penguins released Pittsburgh native Matt Bartkowski from his professional tryout contract as part of Saturday's round of cuts, but Bartkowski isn't going very far.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton announced later Saturday that Bartkowski was signed to a one-year AHL contract for the 2021-22 season.
Bartkowski, 33, participated in Pittsburgh's training camp and played in Friday's preseason game in Buffalo.
"They're big on skating," Bartkowski said of his impressions of the Penguins' organization during camp. "Just making hard plays. I mean, I know it's kind of cliche saying 'play hard,' but playing tough, playing hard, and skating.
