I am American, born and raised, and like so many, I said all the right things about what it’s like to live in a free society. I pledged allegiance, I stood for the national anthem, I hung an American flag at my house on Memorial Day and the 4th of July and was always quick to spit out the “baseball, hot dogs and apple pie” stuff. And like most Americans, I complained a lot about the problems in this country and the things that need to improve.
I, like the growing list of athletes, am concerned about police brutality, equality and justice, and wonder whether this country still stands for all of those pie in the sky things it claims.
