Paul Zeise: Mets' Walker should be celebrated, not booed, during return to Pittsburgh

I remember a game in 2011 at PNC Park when the Mets left fielder that day was introduced and booed by many of the Pirates faithful in the stands.

His name was Jason Bay.

It made no sense to me then, and it still makes no sense to me now.

There isn’t anything uncommon about fans booing players from opposing teams, and there especially isn’t anything uncommon about fans booing a former player from their favorite team.

But Bay?

He was the best player on those Pirates teams who were DOA — that’s dead on arrival in case you don’t know what those initials mean — and yet, he never complained, was always a class act and made it pretty clear he loved his time with the Pirates.
