Paul Zeise: Bob Nutting needs to act like he wants to win a World Series

Frank Coonelly was asked by a fan at PirateFest last weekend whether the Pirates truly are interested in winning. The team president’s answer was an emphatic “yes,” and he even called it insulting that people would even ask.

“I’m so tired of that narrative,” Coonelly said. “As these gentlemen [manager Clint Hurdle and general manager Neal Huntington] can explain to you, as my wife sitting out there can explain to you, there’s nobody more competitive than the three men up on this stage. And there is nothing more that anyone can do for you — not for us — than to win a World Series championship here in Pittsburgh.
