At first, Charlie Morton thought he’d jumped the gun. He turned and watched Jose Altuve field Corey Seager’s grounder and throw to Yuli Gurriel for what he thought was the final out of the World Series, and he screamed.
But it was so quiet; the fans inside Dodger Stadium had just watched their final hope die in Gurriel’s glove.
“Whenever a good thing has been happening, I’ve been in the dugout or at home,” Morton said. “It’s been loud, guys are screaming, fans are screaming. I was on the mound pretty much by myself.
“And then I didn’t hear anything, I didn’t hear any screaming from the fans, I didn’t hear anything.
