The Houston Astros selected Arizona infielder J.J. Matijevic with the 75th overall pick in the MLB draft, making the former Norwin High School standout the second WPIAL product drafted Monday.
Louisville pitcher/first baseman Brendan McKay, a Blackhawk graduate, was taken fourth overall by the Tampa Bay Rays, though he was rumored as a possible pick for the Minnesota Twins at No. 1.
Matijevic was widely considered a top-100 prospect entering the draft, though it was possible he could slip out of the first day, which encompassed the first round, a competitive balance round, the second round and a second competitive balance round.
