The Pirates didn’t quite clinch that playoff spot on Tuesday – it was the theme of the night on ROOT Sports, with the magic number being down to two (now one) and the Nationals losing, but thanks to a late night Giants win, it’ll have to wait. And that’s fine (the team didn’t wait around). Obviously, it’s a formality at this point, and now the Pirates can do it with a win of their own on Wednesday rather than waiting around late at night. The real bummer of the evening was the Cubs and Cardinals both winning again, but that was expected.
