Neil Walker was spent. The New York Mets were stuck on the tarmac at John F. Kennedy International Airport until 2:15 a.m. Friday, so Walker streamed the Penguins’ Game 7 win on his cell phone, celebrated with fellow Western Pa. native Josh Edgin, and then waited. By the time Walker’s head hit the pillow in Pittsburgh, the city he calls home, it was 4:15 a.m.
Walker showed no signs of fatigue Friday night.
In the Mets’ 8-1 series-opening win over the Pirates, Walker hammered two home runs, his fifth and sixth this season, and went 3 for 5 with three runs scored and four RBIs.
