The Pirates’ organization has seen an influx of new blood since the last Minors Matters piece was penned, as the MLB First-Year Player Draft took place July 11-13 and the club swung several deals at or just prior to the July 30 trade deadline.
The draft brought a windfall of young talent, including four players considered by some to be among the top 32 players available in catcher Henry Davis (No. 1 overall), left-handed pitcher Anthony Solometo (No. 37), outfielder Lonnie White Jr. (No. 64) and Bubba Chandler (No. 72). Deals that sent Adam Frazier, Clay Holmes, Tyler Anderson and Richard Rodriguez packing also fetched a handful of prospects, including one that slotted into the club’s Top 10 list in Tucupita Marcano, who’s rated No.
