BRADENTON, Fla. — The New York Mets have claimed outfielder Bryce Brentz off waivers from the Pirates.
The Pirates placed Brentz on waivers on Saturday. He had a chance to earn a bench spot with the Pirates after hit hit 31 homers in Class AAA last year, but he struggled this spring and the team opted to go with a four-man bench instead.
“Things like this happen,” Brentz said Sunday of the waiver process. “Part of the ups and downs of baseball. You get through it and work your way through it. That’s about all you can do.
