Mercer carted off filed in Pirates' sweeping loss against Brewers, 6-1

MILWAUKEE — As Jordy Mercer lay on the ground, Neil Walker bent to pick up Mercer’s sunglasses. Jung Ho Kang reached down to check on him, and head athletic trainer Todd Tomczyk raced out of the dugout.

Mercer eventually left the field on a cart because of a lower left leg injury. The Pirates lost to the Milwaukee Brewers, 6-1, and were swept at Miller Park in the first series after the All-Star break. They now head to Kansas City for three games against the Royals, the team with the best record in the American League, and they might have to do it without their starting shortstop.
