McCutchen's homer in 14th wins it for Pirates

There was controversy, drama and, in the end, an absolutely electric and delirious PNC Park.

Andrew McCutchen hit a 415-foot two-run home run to dead center field in the bottom of the 14th inning to turn a one-run deficit into a 6-5 win against the division rival St. Louis Cardinals.

The win moves the Pirates to 3½ games behind the National League Central-leading Cardinals in the standings.

Both teams squandered chances to win earlier in the game. The Cardinals’ Mark Reynolds hit a home run — his second of the game — in the top of the 10th, but Jung Ho Kang led off the bottom of the inning with a triple, and Chris Stewart scored him two batters later when he poked a single to right to tie it at 4-4 and send the game to the 11th.
