NEW YORK — Infielders Max Moroff and Phil Gosselin will join the Pirates here for their weekend series against the Mets, but not necessarily on the active roster.
Class AAA Indianapolis’ Twitter account announced Thursday evening that both players would join the Pirates on the taxi squad, a gray area, roster-wise, meant to help teams cover for the possible unavailability of a player. Teams generally bring players up from the minors on the taxi squad when deciding whether or not to put a player on the disabled list. If they decide shortly before the game to place a player on the DL, they don’t have to quickly summon a replacement from some far-flung minor league locale.
