The 2024 MLB season saw the Pirates offense rank in the bottom half of the league, with just 665 runs scored placing 24th and an overall team OPS of .672 putting the Buccos at 27th in baseball. The overall poor showing saw hitting coach Andy Haines get the boot when the season ended, with GM Ben Cherington saying he was looking for a coach that would best unite the team.
“We’re looking for someone who can add to those areas, but also be a complement to our group,” Cherington said. “Serve all that through the group of people.
