Nick Kingham and the Pirates’ bullpen were no match for the Mets’ anemic lineup, with Kingham giving up six runs and leaving early as the Pirates got stomped, 12-6.
Kingham’s problems started early and never let up. For three-plus innings, he alternated between walks and loud contact. A double and a home run produced two in the first, then single runs followed in the second and third due to a combination of bad control and two more doubles. The Mets started the fourth with a single and another longball, and that was all for Kingham. Things didn’t improve much, though, as a combination of poor control and the abysmal infield defense that Neal Huntington sees no need to improve (in this case it was errors by Josh Harrison and David Freese) cost Tyler Glasnow a hitless run before the inning ended.
