Kevin Seigrist becomes a free agent after refusing minor league assignment

Left-hander Kevin Siegrist refused his assignment to the minor leagues and became a free agent, the Pirates announced Thursday.

The Pirates signed Siegrist to a minor league contract with an invite to major league spring training in late February. In 52/3 spring innings, Siegrist allowed five runs and eight hits, though he struck out nine while walking only one.
