Kela gets two-game ban for “contract violation”

Keone Kela has been suspended for two games by the Pirates, the team announced Monday night.

The Pirates gave no reason for the suspension beyond stating in a press release he was “in violation of his Uniform Player’s Contract.”

Kela has been on the injured list since May 6 with right shoulder inflammation. He pitched in three games with Class AAA Indianapolis on a rehab assignment and was expected to be activated from the IL prior to Monday night’s game with the Cardinals in the opener of a four-game series at PNC Park.
