NEW YORK — Jung Ho Kang went on the Class AAA seven-day disabled list Wednesday because of a sprained left wrist.
“We are probably going to shut him down from baseball activities and take a little closer look in the coming days,” director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said.
The Pirates removed Kang from the restricted list earlier this month and optioned him to Indianapolis, a paper move that gave him back his salary and 40-man roster spot. In nine games with Indianapolis, Kang, who is making his way back to the majors after missing all of 2017 because of visa issues stemming from a DUI, went 8 for 34 with a double, three walks and five strikeouts.
