The Pittsburgh Pirates designated left-handed reliever Josh Smoker for assignment on Monday when they added Casey Sadler to the 40-man roster. It was announced today that Smoker was claimed by the Detroit Tigers.
The Pirates acquired Smoker from the New York Mets on January 31st for minor league reliever Daniel Zamora and cash. Smoker made seven appearances for the Pirates, posting an 11.12 ERA in 5.2 innings, with 11 hits, five walks and just two strikeouts. While he never excelled in two seasons with the Mets, his numbers were much better compared to the rough outings he put together with the Pirates.
