Josh Bell has been named the International League Player of the Week, Rob Biertempfel tweets.
Bell, who's in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak, has batted 12-for-30 this past week, with three doubles, a triple and two homers. That included a performance Friday against Louisville in which he hit for the cycle and had a grand slam (and a walk).
Bell got off to a slow start in the first week of the season, but that appears to be behind him -- he's now batting .321/.424/.589. The Pirates appear fairly set with John Jaso at first base this season and have no real vacancies in their outfield, and Bell can continue to use work on his defense.
