ST. LOUIS — On a night when the bullpen needed a break, Jameson Taillon came through.
Taillon pitched eight scoreless innings during the Pirates’ 4-0 victory against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium Friday. He kept the Cardinals batters from squaring up much of anything he threw, mixing in his new slider with a fastball that sat in the mid-90s, and induced groundout after groundout.
In addition to blowing four saves in six appearances, Felipe Vazquez had pitched three days in a row and was unavailable. So was Kyle Crick, who had pitched five times in the past week and also served as the setup man during the past two games.
