LOS ANGELES — This was the sort of record that Ivan Nova and the Pirates would have preferred not to set.
Entering the Pirates’ 8-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday, Ivan Nova had given up 1.24 home runs per nine innings pitched.
After five pitches at Dodger Stadium, Nova had given up two homers. Through the first batter of the sixth inning, the Dodgers had hit five. That represented the first time in the franchise’s 131-year history that a pitcher had allowed at least five homers in one game.
The Dodgers, ultimately, had six on the evening, after adding one more off Dovydas Neverauskas, who had been recalled from Class AAA Indianapolis earlier in the day.
