Though the Pirates have not made anything official, the team appears ready to make a pair of roster moves as they begin a road trip this weekend.
Utility player Alen Hanson said after Wednesday’s loss to Arizona that he is not joining the team in New York for the series against the Mets that begins Friday. Hanson is out of minor league options. If the Pirates want to send him to the minor leagues, he must clear waivers.
The 24-year-old switch-hitter has 59 plate appearances in 36 games this year. He is batting .193/.220/.263 with two triples.
