In the eight years since the Pirates drafted Nick Kingham, then a high school right-hander from Las Vegas, his family often dreamed of the day he’d debut in the major leagues. They didn’t dare assume Kingham would make history or flirt with a perfect game or leave to a standing ovation. They just hoped he’d be there, and be happy, and that they’d be there too.
Reality was wilder than their imaginations.
As the sun appeared above PNC Park late Sunday afternoon, Don and Roxane Kingham stood near the Pirates dugout and watched as their oldest son was interviewed on TV.
