Half an hour before game time, Daytona Cubs manager Buddy Bailey walked into the clubhouse.
“Where’s Harrison?” he asked.
Twenty-two-year-old Josh Harrison raised his hand. It was July 30, 2009, and he was leading off that day. He hadn’t been there long, just promoted to the high-A Chicago Cubs affiliate from low-A Peoria earlier in the month. Bailey called him into his office and said, “Good news for you, bad news for us. Can you guess?”
Harrison guessed he was promoted to double-A.
“No, you just got traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates,” Bailey said. “Thanks for everything.
