FORT MYERS, Fla. — Jameson Taillon cut the number of seams in his grip in half. Chad Kuhl moved his fingers from on the seams to behind them. Tyler Glasnow needs to feel the ball on the pads of his fingers and keep his large hands from choking the ball.
All three changed something with their changeup. That experiment is a common denominator for the young pitchers, two of whom are competing for a rotation spot.
“We had a secret meeting and decided that’s going to be the pitch for us,” Kuhl said.
Full seasons from Taillon and Ivan Nova, and a healthy season for Gerrit Cole, will go a long way toward addressing the deficiencies the rotation experienced in 2016.
