MILWAUKEE — Returning to the majors in Miller Park was special for Dan Runzler. He made his major league debut there Sept. 4, 2009. He pitched to Bengie Molina, in a game Barry Zito started, and struck out the only batter he faced.
“It kind of came around full circle a little bit, running back out the same place you ran out the first time,” Runzler said. “After a long layoff, it felt good to get back out there, I guess.”
When Runzler pitched for the Pirates Monday, he ended a span of nearly five years when he didn’t pitch in the majors.
