ST. LOUIS — Gregory Polanco’s sophomore season has been more surge than slump, especially in recent weeks, but the Pirates right fielder has endured some growing pains.
Manager Clint Hurdle waved Polanco into his office Thursday afternoon to discuss Polanco’s fielding blunder that may have cost the Pirates in a 4-2 loss Wednesday night against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Polanco was too aggressive on Yadier Molina’s sinking line drive, and it skipped past him for a triple that scored the deciding run.
“He tried to make a play, but there’s another way to make it,” Hurdle said.
