Ever since the first day he came into Pirate City in Bradenton, Fla. for spring training 1.0, Derek Holland has had the mindset that he did not have a job yet with the Pirates. He had signed a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training, and while the Pirates were clearly giving him the inside track to make the team or even a spot in the rotation, he wasn't going to let himself get complacent.
He had the same attitude coming in to summer camp, even though it was pretty clear he was going to be a member of the starting rotation.
