ST. LOUIS -- The Pirates' five-game winning streak came to an end on Monday night at Busch Stadium following a rare off night for two of Pittsburgh's most reliable pitchers.
Right-hander Trevor Williams allowed four runs, as many as he had in his previous nine starts combined, and reliever Edgar Santana gave up the go-ahead three-run homer to Matt Adams in the eighth inning of the Pirates' 8-7 loss to the Cardinals. After reeling off five straight wins, the Bucs are back below .500 with 19 games remaining.
Williams retired the first nine hitters he faced before giving up four runs during a seven-batter stretch in the fourth.
