It’s hard to blame the Pirates for wanting to give Gregory Polanco more chances. Look at him. His 6-foot-5, 235-pound frame and physical gifts are everything you’d expect a future All-Star to posses. Unless he really lets himself go, it will probably always feel like he has the potential to break out with the right combination of adjustments.
Still, the reality is that he’s 26 and has 551 games of big-league experience. His body of work is large and underwhelming enough that it fits a pretty consistent profile — journeyman rather than future MVP candidate — when compared to past players.
