LOS ANGELES — Francisco Cervelli, who is on the seven-day concussion disabled list, may go on a rehab assignment as soon as this weekend, assuming the MLB commissioner’s office and players’ union clear him to play.
“We will exercise the right, per Francisco's approval, to get him into some type of rehab setting first before he returns to the major leagues,” Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said.
Cervelli, who has had several concussions, exited a game June 9 after taking a foul tip off his jaw. He was down for a few days, returned to action and then went on the seven-day concussion disabled list June 22.
