ATLANTA — Francisco Cervelli left Tuesday’s game after getting hit in the head with a pitch.
Cervelli was batting with one out in the fifth inning. Atlanta Braves starter Mike Foltynewicz missed up and in with an 0-1, 83 mph changeup that hit Cervelli in the helmet.
Cervelli dropped to the ground, but was alert and soon sitting up, with head athletic trainer Todd Tomczyk examining him. He initially stayed in the game and took his base, but first-base coach Nick Leyva and Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman took another look at him as he was slow to get into position to run.
