The foul ball that hit Francisco Cervelli in the jaw June 9 was the final blow, but it stood on the shoulders of those that came before it. He was hit with a foul ball during each game in St. Louis at the beginning of June, then another off his jaw against the Los Angeles Dodgers the following week. He didn’t get better when the Pirates moved onto Arizona. He felt like he had a hangover.
“I couldn’t perform the way I’m supposed to do it,” said Cervelli, who could return from the seven-day concussion disabled list Sunday.
