Five weeks after cancer diagnosis, Jameson Taillon set to start for Pirates

Right-hander Jameson Taillon will return to the Pirates’ rotation Monday, five weeks after undergoing surgery for testicular cancer. The 25-year-old starter was scratched from a start in early May and placed on the 10-day disabled list shortly before his May 8 surgery.

Taillon had a 3.31 ERA in six starts before hitting the disabled list.

After surgery, Taillon rested for a week before doctors cleared him to play catch. He returned to regular bullpen sessions after another week and then was sent on rehab assignments. He made one start for Class AA Altoona and two for Class AAA Indianapolis.
