This game/series can be summed up pretty simply: the Marlins are bad, and the Pirates are no longer bad. I suppose it’s tough to tell whether or not this is more about the Pirates playing well or their opponents playing very poorly, but in the end it doesn’t matter – all wins count the same and the Bucs have five of them in a row. After falling into an early hole in the standings, streaks like this are what you need to dig out. (They’ve still got a ways to go, but this has been a good start.) The Pirates have done their job feasting on bad teams in past years, but extended win streaks like this have obviously still been rare (they didn’t hit five until September last season).
