WASHINGTON — Felipe Vazquez did not know if he would pitch at all Tuesday night, let alone when. The Pirates left-hander closer joked with Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who helmed the National League All-Stars, that he’d pitched “10 out of nine” during the Pirates’ most recent homestand. He did take the ball in seven out of the final 10 games, including both games of a doubleheader, but he told Roberts he’d be ready.
Vazquez was back in his old clubhouse at Nationals Park before Tuesday’s All-Star Game. To his left were Eugenio Suarez, Scooter Gennett and Joey Votto, the Cincinnati Reds representatives.
