Fans, paramedics help man stricken at Pirates game

Late in the Pirates game Friday night, as the baseball team was caught in a 2-2 tie with the Atlanta Braves, a lifesaving drama was unfolding in section 117 of PNC Park, about 20 rows behind home plate.

First aid room crew members initially heard a call reporting that a man was being given CPR by two other fans, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler. Then three city paramedics responded, calling in a transport unit. After a cardiac arrest was confirmed, the patient was successfully defibrillated and given CPR.

The paramedics reported that within seconds, the patient, in his 60s, began to blink and a strong pulse was detected.
