DETROIT — Daniel Hudson is without a put-away pitch. The Pirates reliever unraveled in the eighth inning Wednesday after starting with two strikes to the Detroit Tigers’ John Hicks. The following four pitches, all four-seam fastballs, were sprayed outside of the strike zone. Hudson walked the next batter, too.
Hudson faced six batters and retired only one, though he had two strikes on four and Jordy Mercer committed an error. He began with three balls to Ian Kinsler, who then doubled. Jim Adduci struck out on the 10th pitch. James McCann ripped a fastball to right field, driving in another run, and Hudson was removed.
