As a show of unity against the sweltering summer heat, the Pirates’ eight relievers, plus bullpen coach Euclides Rojas and bullpen catcher Heberto Andrade showed up at PNC Park Tuesday with their heads shaved.
The bald bullpen posed for photos before the Pirates’ series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers. (Andrade already was bald, but he participated nonetheless.)
Right-hander Jared Hughes said the plan was hatched in Washington D.C. over the weekend — perhaps at some point during the team’s 18-inning win Sunday. It simply was getting too hot out there in the bullpen, Hughes explained.
