Andy Barkett, the Class AAA Indianapolis manager, beckoned for left-hander Steven Brault to join him on the bench in the visitor’s dugout at PNC Field in Moosic, Pa. The previous night, April 28, Brault didn’t survive the fifth inning in his start against Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He allowed four runs and invited trouble with seven hits and four walks in 4u2154 innings.
Brault, 25, debuted for the Pirates last season and was a candidate for the final rotation spot in spring training before the job went to right-hander Tyler Glasnow. Back in the minors, Brault made five starts in April and was inconsistent.
