Cincinnati Reds Claim Lisalverto Bonilla from Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced that right-handed pitcher Lisalverto Bonilla was claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. He was designated for assignment on Thursday when the Pirates acquired pitcher Pat Light from the Minnesota Twins.

Bonilla was signed to a Major League deal back in December after the Pirates parted ways with Jeff Locke. The 26-year-old Bonilla pitched briefly for the Texas Rangers in 2014, before missing the entire 2015 season due to Tommy John surgery. He spent all of 2016 in the minors with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Pirates expect to find out tomorrow whether Nefi Ogando will clear waivers.
